Waterborne Architectural Coatings

Ashland Aqualon Functional Ingredients' Coatings Additives is a worldwide technology leader in performance additives for architectural paint & coatings.

In recent years, we have significantly expanded our core rheology modifier business beyond being the globally recognized supplier of Natrosol® hydroxyethylcellulose & Aquaflow® nonionic synthetic associative thickener lines. New technologies for water-based architectural paint include the following:

Next Generation Rheology: Aquaflow® XLS-series rheology modifiers represent the newest generation of nonionic synthetic associative thickeners (NSATs) that provide a previously unattainable balance of flow, leveling and sag resistance along with high efficiency.

Foam Control Agents: By bringing together the well respected product lines of Advantage® and Drewplus® foam control agents, we have rapidly become a major global supplier of foam control agents for coatings. In addition, in Latin America, we have also integrated foam control products from the former Logos Química (acquired in 2008).

Specialty Surfactants: Dextrol® & Strodex® phosphate ester surfactants were added to the our portfolio in 2007 following the acquisition of Dexter Chemical LLC. These product lines enhance performance of paints through enhanced gloss, wetting, & color development. In addition, they enhance long term stability of water-based paints.

pHLEX™ Neutralizing Additive: In 2009, we developed and introduced the pHLEX line of pH neutralizers for paint & coatings. This low odor, organoamine-based additive offers an economical alternative that was designed as a functional drop-in to common existing technologies in the marketplace.
