Klucel® Hydroxypropyl Cellulose (HPC) is a nonionic water-soluble ether with a remarkable combination of properties --it's ideal for specialty applications like thickening alcohol-based “gel pigs” to remove scale and gas hydrate deposits in oil and gas pipelines. The H-Oil HPC Klucel grade is particularly suitable as a suspending aid for alcohols and/or glycol-based fluidized polymer suspensions of water-soluble polymers.
Klucel HPC offers unique properties: among all cellulose ethers, it's soluble in the broadest range of solvent systems: cold water, alcohol, and anhydrous systems (e.g., polar organic solvents and glycols). Klucel® HPC is generally insoluble in water over 105°F (40°C); however, this precipitation phenomenon occurs only in water and is fully reversible upon cooling. Klucel® HPC is available in a broad range of molecular weight.
